WASTE & IMPACT
Nowadays frames, lenses and sunglasses packaging produced in Asia using entirely plastic contaminating products are found in opticians and fashion shops all over the world.
Its quality is poor, its manufacturing processes are not sustainable and they are mass produced in places that lack laws that protect the environmental impact of their fabrics.
As a result, their emissions of C02 and highly polluting waste are not only threatening the health of our planet but the lifespan of their employees.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Most worryingly those fabrics are not only putting at risk the life of its labourers but recklessly exploiting children. Their salaries seldom reach figures over 100 dollars a month and their shifts are over 12 hours a day.
They lack health care, social security and they don’t even know what workplace hazard prevention is, even though they are daily dealing with highly damaging chemicals and lacking any kind of protection. Its only end is to produce at any low-cost rate. To them the end —of both the health their workers and the planet— justifies the low-cost means.
AWARENESS: BUY CHEAP IS EXPENSIVE
The Spanish saying goes: «lo barato sale caro». Meaning that buying cheap is expensive. Whenever you are buying any kind of low-cost and low quality product you are doing it at the expense of the planet, its labourers health and at the expense of your own pocket, because rather soon than later you would have to replace the product. Low-cost products are not only transient but also thrive at the cost of slowly destroying craftsmanship and small traditional businesses. It is a matter of awareness.
